Madhavsena, a Character from Dhruvadevi – The Queen Who Made Chandragupta

Sarvajeet D Chandra Avatar

“But behind her lovely eyes,

Lies a heart that’s sad and broken,

She loved a village boy once,

Who loved her from afar, unspoken.

Downriver, he’d drink the water,

Bitter with her thin neem soap.

He gifted her sweetwood flowers,

Laden with love and hope.

Madhavsena sang with a lot of emotion. It was a fresh composition, raw and heart-breaking. It was not until she came to the last stanza that the secret behind the song seemed to reveal itself.”

The above passage is from the Novel:  Dhruvadevi – The Queen Who Made Chandragupta, a novel by Sarvajeet Dinesh Chandra

In the novel, Madhavsena is a courtesan with a tragic backstory. She transitions from a survivor to a key political player. Her loyalty to Magadha, love for Chandragupta, and eventual escape as a Buddhist Nun highlights her resilience and sacrifice.
